Tech Stuff from Thelo

Thelo is the super tech guy behind www.fantasystrike.com/dev

That's our site that allows you to play Yomi and Puzzle Strike online. (We really need that site to look better. Can anyone help?) Anyway, Thelo spoke at the Unite conference about integrating a game made with the Unity engine with website features such as chat, matchmaking, accounts, leaderboards, and so on. This isn't a design talk, so consider yourself warned if you are afraid of tech talks. Get a sneak peak at what's going on behind the scenes for us tech-wise, and why we dropped Flash.

It seems unity3d.com would like to add an extra click to your experience of watching that video because it doesn't seem to have an embed option. (Burn on extra clicks!)

Excellent stuff! I don't mind the technical talk despite being a designer. Besides, there are plenty of product design lessons to be gleamed from their talk.

I wish Unity3D worked in Linux, really.

So, I just recently started messing with Unity to try to get in on the Kongregate competition, and I have to say I'm impressed so far with how easy it is to make a game. Make an object, attach a controller type to it, attach a network view, then set the camera to follow the object and you've got a network-enabled game in seconds, which is just crazy to me.
