The only thing is that it doesn't seem to retain much from the actual DKC games. The artstyle is relatively new and cartoony while the originals where going for a still cartoony but much more realistic look that made the games look more serious. Also they seem to want to make the game full of action packed character techs and background level hazard and camera angles with crumbling scenery. In DKC they left you play the game in peace. Most of the music was relaxing and sober and prompted you to take the time to explore. It's just a guess from my part, but I think the hidden stuff such as DK coins you praised in an older article that were cleverly placed won't be there or won't be hidden with as much attention. Besides, it looks like you probably won't have much time to look because you'll constantly be thrown forward by a level that plays the game in your place by throwing stuff everywhere and changing shape for no reason. Let's just say it's not exactly all bad, but in my book this really isn't Donkey Kong Country at all. And those enemies look aweful.
Note: I loved everything in Jungle Beat
Honestly, I'm not sure if we can judge based on the trailer, which is meant to show fast-paced gameplay to get people interested in buying it. I can tell a few moments in the trailer (like the bobbing platforms in the water) where the player had the option of slowing down and grabbing more stuff.
That, and if there are big secrets like bonus/DK coins, they probably wouldn't be shown in a trailer ;)
I'm excited, and I think it's going to be a good game.
Yes, I think I agree with you, I watched it again and I feel that maybe it'll keep enough of the old series to get me and others interested. I have to add that the sequence in silhouettes against the setting sun background is incredible, and if all levels end up with such little details, it will be great game.
