Puzzle Strike is Coming

Watch It Played just got their hands on the upcoming Puzzle Strike 3rd Edition + Shadows expansion.

Watch It Played did a really great series on Flash Duel, so I'm willing to bet the upcoming Puzzle Strike videos will really help show how the game works and demonstrate by example what's fun and strategic about it.

Thanks to everyone who supported the game on kickstarter. I think we'll be able to ship out to all of you in September as planned, though I'm always nervous about last minute-manufacturing / shipping delays. Really doing our best to hit that date. And that would mean everyone else would be able to order in October from either sirlingames.com or your local game stores (a list of participating stores at gamestorelocator.com). And while you wait, the online version is playable right now at fantasystrike.com!

Those new 3rd Editions look sweet. I wish I had some, but I recently got burned hard by our tax offices. Paying 30$ in fees for goods worth 50$ isn't funny.

I've been wondering this for a little bit and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, so I figured I would just ask here: Is there any way to upgrade from an older version of Puzzle Strike to Third Edition without simply repurchasing the game?

Will: practically every chip is different in 3rd Edition, not because every chip was balanced changed (lots were) but because of the rewording of things for the 2v2 mode and the new workings of the free-for-all mode. So between all that and the change to Combine and other balance changes, you'd need the almost all the chips, and there was no good way make a new SKU of "most of what's in the box."

If you'd like to use the 2nd Edition with Shadows, or regardless of Shadows if you want to play the 3rd Edition rules with the 2nd Edition set, you can. The rules are freely available at sirlin.net/ps/rules and sirlin.net/pss/rules. Then treat all your Combine chips as if they say "-$1" on them (as explained in the rulebook) and treat any chips saying "previous opponent" or "next opponent" as saying "chosen opponent." That's enough to get it all working. If you also want balance changes on top of that, you could check out the new chip images at http://www.sirlingames.com/pages/puzzle-strike-chip-images. Probably Rook and Argagarg would be the first two to errata, if anything. You could play with all the errata even, but at that point you'd probably be better off with a new set.

FYI, the link to the Puzzle Strike Shadows rulebook doesn't work (and hasn't for some time)

Well you very much can just get the 3rd ed Print and Play and then either print and paste the revisions on to a set, or if you're lazy use that for an update reference.

14 of the 24 puzzle chips got tweaks, combine got -$1 added and 5 characters had tweaks (since the Update pack versions):. Lum and Rook each had a single chip changed while Jaina, Arg and Midori had 2 each. So overall it would only be about half the printing of a full P&P set.

Furthermore, a lot of the changes are minor wording changes to function better with the new multiplayer rules, or tweaks to make things interact as intended with Panic Time or balances intended to make tournament play more even - so playing with the older chips and an errata sheet reference isn't all that hard.
