PAX East 2012

I just got back from PAX East 2012, and Sirlin Games was in full effect at the Game Salute booth. Check out the banners:

We had a demo area for people to learn Yomi, Puzzle Strike, and Flash Duel and people were playing my games every minute the show was open all three days. Wow! There was also a Yomi tournament:

And a Puzzle Strike tournament:

We've been seriously lacking with any presence at conventions so far, so it was amazing to finally get things going at PAX East. My games will appear at the Game Salute booth at several upcoming conventions, and I really hope we can do more events. These games were made for competitive play!

Oh by the way, I won the PAX East tournament for Street Fighter HD Remix. ;)
(I played Fei Long and Sagat.)

Agh! It looks awesome. I'd been to PAX east the past two years but didn't go this year and I regret not being able to meet you Dave and also play in some events. I won't make the same mistake next year, you'll be around again right?

Maybe, not sure. These conventions take a lot of time. For example, the next Yomi release was delayed by at least 1 week because I went to PAX East, and it kinda adds up with so many conventions all over. So I don't know yet. ;)

Congrats on the HD Remix tourney win. :D

I managed to win that Yomi tournament :D Was great fun finally being able to play the game with people besides my local group of friends. Love the game. Was trying to find you but sadly missed you in my idle movements. Next year hopefully.

...also, I somehow managed to dodge being in that picture.

Oh wow, congratulations. I still don't have the list of winners names or I would have posted that too. Which character did you play?

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yeah it's fun playing new people huh? Same as with a fighting game I think, where you get used to certain human opponents, then it can be a pretty different experience vs other playstyles.

Yo, Sirlin, I saw that Power Up in Cincinnati this weekend has Sirlin Games listed as a sponsor, but no word on what you'll be doing there. Just raffles?

Thank you very much. Setsuki took me through the first 3 rounds, than I swapped to Argagarg to avoid the mirror match for the last one, which ended up being probably my cleanest wins of the tournament to my surprise.

Very much so. The first round in particular was very interesting for me, because I'm so used to certain plays, and forcing myself to not play the way I always do against them was... interesting. Also rather lovely to see some of the characters I don't get to play against much, the 3rd round Jaina in particular was much scarier to play against than I've ever seen her before. And... uh... yeah :)

Acosta: just raffles / prizes, yeah. They should have had a Yomi tournament. Maybe there could be an impromptu one.

Well, I'll be arriving today and staying throughout the weekend, so if anything does happen, I could show up and try to help teach people or whatever. Hope to see you there!

I won't be at the event, so it's up to you to make Yomi happen there, heh.

Congrats on such a good presence at PAX East!

Also, Sagat in HDR? I know little about him, I confess -- do you primarily zone with him? His arms seem vulnerable on fireballs to me compared to Ryu (whose hitbox is lower and therefore more difficult to kick)...

I think players who don't understand HD Remix Sagat try to zone with him like O.Sagat. While that is a good idea against Honda, in many other matches I think it's good to kind of go crazy and rush them down. Tiger knee all day. You've probably heard of "psychic DP," though a psychic tiger knee can hit them from much farther away if you do it at the right time. If you land it, you get two more, plus a few more whiffed ones that can set up two different kinds of crossups (or not). People can get so scared of this that I even walk up and throw them, which is ridiculous considering Sagat has the worst throw range and about the worst walk speed, lol.

Yeah good presence at PAX East. I hope we can keep that up at other conventions, whether I'm there in person or not.

David, what upcoming conventions will you be making an appearance at? I'd love to participate in an IRL Puzzle Strike tourney!

I have no idea really if I'll go to any, but there should be tournaments and Sirlin Games presence at the Game Salute booth at Origins, GenCon, PAX Prime, and BGG Con.

You used Sagat cheese to win HDR?! Out, demon!

Just kidding, Sirlin. Congrats on the win. And dang, I wish I was at that Yomi tourney :(
