Flash Duel, Highest Rated Game Ever from BoardToDeathTV
Friday, February 24, 2012 at 10:57PM
BoardToDeath reviewed Flash Duel and they gave it the highest rating they've ever given any game. They said we thought of virtually every detail in making it, and they can't find anything wrong with the game at all. So this is the best possible review a game could get, really. Wow!
With this plus the amazing Watch It Played series of videos on Flash Duel and the glowing Penny Arcade post about it, it's been amazing seeing such a positive reaction. Really exciting!

"We couldn't find anything wrong with the game, so it gets a 9.5/10."
Just give it a 10/10 already goddammit. It feels like they went for a fractional score just because they wanted to avoid a "perfect" score, even though on an integer scale, 10/10 would just mean the top 10%. Would you even be able to tell the difference between a 9.5 and a 9.3 game? Would it even matter? Bah.
tl;dr: Reviews with scores are a little bit silly.
Holy...
Kudos Mr. Sirlin!!!!
These guys are like 'the Gamespot' of board games. They rarely give anything above a 7. Yet you earned a 9.5 "Flawless". You sir, keep me inspired to live out my dream as a table top game designer with equal success.
Thank you for showing the industry that you don't need to be a tycoon publisher or have tons of components and long over edited rules to make a great game.
3 for 3. Can't wait to see this 4th game you have been concocting.
Thanks so much, I appreciate it. It will be a while for the 4th game though. Have to release the next Puzzle Strike first, and then back to Yomi, but that awesome 4th card game is definitely coming. I could make even more, but it would be nice to really get the fighting game going after that. Enormous project requiring a real team though.
Coincidentally, I just had my first real go at Flash Duel this very weekend. What a fast playing and fun game. And it has one of the best and clearest rulebooks I ever read. I totally agree with the review: All the praise is well deserved.
And I'm super curious about your Customizable Card Game. Can't wait to see the rules.
PS: Unfortunately, the Yomi review on BoardToDeath isn't that well done. They don't do a good job at explaining and showing the main mechanics and they come to the conclusion that the characters aren't well balanced...
We've been playing a lot of Flash Duel over lunch at work. It's been a big hit, and everyone has had a blast trying out all the different characters and coming to conclusions as to which are their favorites. I have the old edition, and the new characters of the second edition make me glad I picked that up as well!
