Parts 8 and 9 of my Smash Bros. Brawl tutorial videos are now available. If you're new to the game, you might learn something about super armor and auto-cancels. Enjoy!

Love this videos, even though I already know all the stuff in them. Forget all the people that whine at you despite all the effort you put in, these videos are really nice to have and very helpful to link noobs to. Thank you very, very much for making these, Sirlin!

Just a few misc. things in case anyone reads these comments in conjunction with the videos. You can't change them NOW, but:

- "auto-cancelling" isn't EXACTLY what you say it is - it's a special property that some aerial attacks have that allows you to land during a later part of their animation with no lag even though you'd still be lagging in the air while the move's going. A good example is Marth's nair or Falcon's bair. Samus's moves don't autocancel, they just have incredibly negligible amounts of lag, and her zair doesn't autocancel, it just doesn't have any lag in the first place. You got the Ganon/Charizard stuff right though, which is the most helpful.
- Items are never used in tournaments or competitively, ever. The only time they were used at any big tournaments were at EVO and the GameStop ones, which were pretty much considered jokes by all the competitive players. BUT the information you have about items spawning and stage control IS very helpful to people that DO play with them. Didn't know that items tend to spawn closer to the loser, heheh. (ps - got nothing against items, play with them if you like them, that's just the facts)
- The most notable other move that has super-armor is Wario/Squirtle's fsmash, but mostly Wario's because it's so fast and so powerful. It's infuriating and makes up for its lack of distance.

Anyway, yeah, uh, thanks muchly for making these videos even though you're not a huge Smash guy. I really like your articles about game design/psychiatry, it's a shame what's going on in these thar comments.

All right, so we got pretty much all of the videos, because the last one is EVO 2k8 finals, which are already in youtube.

At least I hope it isn't with Keits' horrible commentary. No offense, but Keits only showcased lack of Smash knowledge in his commentary. (All the Smash scene agrees with this)

These are great videos, but I have one problem with a statement made in the items video. You said that 'items spawn closer to a player who is losing in stock'. From what I know I was the first to propose this theory about 8 months ago, no one had even considered it in Melee. After proposing the theory initial tests seemed like it could be onto something, however after testing literally hundreds of spawns nothing was conclusive and it is more than likely that spawn points are not influenced by the losing player.

I'm wondering if you did any tests to confirm this or if maybe you talked to someone from Nintendo to confirm this, because it is a big statement to make that "items spawn closer to the opponent that is losing".

Wasn't Bowser's forward smash a Super Armor attack too? I know Ike's up+B is too.

But still, good vids. I learned some stuff I didn't before >_>

This isn't true. Samus' moves DO autocancel. Do a full hop z-air and you will see that the beam sticks out for a while, as opposed to how it just disappears when you land. Her normal aerials cancel too. If you do an u-air right before touching the ground, you'll recover instantly. Even her missiles autocancel, hence missile cancelling exists.
