Don't Look Back

Even though games have a potential to SAY things, uncomfortably few make a genuine attempt. This simple Flash game on Kongregate surprised me by having such a simple design (and no text) yet I felt it said something. Bravo.

Very fun game, giant boss fight was fun and very challenging. Beat it, ending was great.

It would be ridiculous to expect Americans to comprehend Chinese. It's not so ridiculous to expect some people to understand visual imagery (note that this is how what most people refer to as "art" works). Bad analogy.

Being ridiculous was the point -- the analogy is meant to establish that "failed to communicate its message to the audience" is a legitimate form of criticism. If people couldn't even agree on that, then it would be pointless to talk about whether Don't Look Back merits such criticism.

I don't get the message behind the Mona Lisa.

I don't get the message behind Hurkyl's comments. The game, on the other hand, was quite clear.

Game, 1. Hurkyl, 0.
