Kongai Award

Kongai won both the Best of 2008 award and the audience award from Jayisgames.com. He had this to say about the game:

Why we picked it: The 2-player card combat of Kongai mashes so many ideas together, it's a miracle that it's a playable game at all, let alone one of the best free multiplayer games on the web. Superstar game-design analyst David Sirlin built Kongai on a simplified skeleton of the Pokemon battle system, incorporating several new layers of interlocking strengths and weaknesses, as well as a strong emphasis on mind games. It's a great game, but what makes it a revolution is the way you collect your warrior and item cards by completing challenges in the other games posted on Kongregate. By helping to bring attention to the efforts of amateur designers, Kongai sets a new standard for community-oriented gaming.

Thanks Jay!

Congrats.

I have to admit that I haven't played much of Kongai yet, but it's got my interest. One quick question, though: was it your idea to give the player rewards based on their performance in the other Kongregate games, or did Kongregate itself push for it?

Radek: It was part of Kongregate's business plan to let people win Kongai cards by playing all the other games. I requested that people also be able to win cards inside Kongai itself and that people be able to buy cards directly, so that pretty much all types of players are satisfied. Kongregate did implement those other two ways, in addition to the original way of earning cards.

I've been playing Kongai off and on, and getting the cards is what's annoying me. I have 6 of them, 3 of them are equpis, and only 1 of those equips will actually fit on one of my cards.

I think it´s clear that if you want cards and are annoyed by the way getting cards work. Just buy them, they are very cheap.

Can't say I've tried Kongai out myself (though I have tons of cards for it lol) but congrats none the less.

Kongai is fantastic. I play several games for money (Magic:The Gathering and poker). Kongai is what I play for fun, and it's really one of the best game ever. Every time I lose, I feel like it was my own fault or that my opponent was just infinitely better than me.
